DETAILED ITINERARY TAMBOPATA ADVENTURE - SANDOVAL LAKE LODGE

Your journey begins with a pick-up from the airport or bus station and a transfer to Capitania Port. From there, we embark on a scenic one-hour boat ride down the Madre de Dios River. In the morning, we visit a local native family to immerse ourselves in their ancient culture and traditions. After a delicious regional lunch, the adrenaline kicks in. We will ascend a 27-meter-high tower to reach a breathtaking suspension bridge. Walking among the treetops at 37 meters high, you will spot wildlife that is invisible from the ground. The adventure continues with a thrilling zipline experience, gliding over 190 meters through the canopy. Following this rush, we travel by boat to the famous Sandoval Oxbow Lake. After a 90-minute jungle trek, we arrive at the Maloka Sandoval Lodge. Evening Activity: A night boat excursion to spot the glowing eyes of caimans under the stars.

At dawn, we head to the Macaw Palm Lick, a unique ecosystem where blue-and-yellow macaws and various parrots gather to feed on mineral-rich dead palms. This is a spectacular display of color and sound. After breakfast, we venture deep into the primary forest on a guided trek. Keep your eyes peeled for monkeys, sloths, anteaters, and if we are lucky, the elusive tapir. After returning to the lodge for lunch, you can enjoy a refreshing swim in the safe areas of the lake. In the afternoon, we explore Sandoval Lake by rowing canoe. This silent approach is the best way to see Giant River Otters, turtles, and prehistoric birds like the Hoatzin. Night Activity: A nocturnal hike to discover the "hidden world" of the Amazon, including tarantulas, scorpions, and colorful tree frogs.

On our final morning, we enjoy a farewell breakfast at the lodge before taking a last walk through the reserve back to the river. We will navigate back to Puerto Maldonado and provide a transfer to the airport or bus station. Note: If you have a late departure, you are welcome to relax at the Tarantula Eco-Hostel until your flight.
