DAY 4: Manu’s Iconic Wildlife: Giant Otters at Cocha Salvador

In the afternoon, we explore a nearby wetland (pantanal), ideal for birdwatching, where you may see toucans, woodpeckers, and macaws.

TOUR DAY 3: Parrot Clay Lick – Zipline – Machuwasi Lake

Approx. 450 m.a.s.l.

We start very early with a boat trip to the parrot and macaw clay lick, where dozens of parrots and macaws gather to feed on mineral-rich clay. Species may include blue-headed parrots, white-eyed parakeets, and chestnut-fronted macaws.

After this incredible wildlife encounter, we return to the lodge for breakfast.

Later, enjoy a guided rainforest hike (approximately 2.5–3 hours), discovering the immense biodiversity of the Amazon jungle.

After lunch, you’ll have free time to relax or swim in the river. For those seeking adventure, you can join an optional zipline experience, gliding above the jungle canopy and finishing with a 20-meter rappel.

Machuwasi Lake Exploration
In the afternoon, we visit Lake Machuwasi, exploring by raft in search of wildlife such as the hoatzin (a prehistoric bird), monkeys, and capybaras.

Night Walk
As night falls, enjoy a guided night walk to observe insects, frogs, and other nocturnal creatures.

TOUR DAY 4: Amazon Manu Lodge – Puerto Atalaya – Cusco

After breakfast, enjoy watching the hummingbirds that surround the lodge. We then return by boat to Puerto Atalaya, where our vehicle will be waiting for the journey back to Cusco.

We stop for lunch along the way and arrive in Cusco between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m., marking the end of an unforgettable Amazon rainforest adventure.*

A break at the Amazon Manu Lodge within the reserve, you will live exciting tour experiences such as macaw watching, jungle walks and relaxing natural baths in hot springs before returning to Cusco and finishing your excursion.

DETAILED ITINERARY: MANU CULTURAL ZONE

tour DAY 1: CUSCO (3,300 M.A.L.) – CLOUD FOREST (1,700 M.A.L.) – AMAZON MANU LODGE (400 M.A.L.)

We will leave Cusco very early in the morning in our vehicle. We will cross interesting valleys between the mountains of the Andes and picturesque rural communities. We will visit the pre-Incan tombs of the Lupaca culture and then we will stop in Paucartambo, a beautiful colonial city, and visit the interesting museum of the city. On the way, we will have lunch in the cloud forest.

We will continue our descent through the cloud forest, an area rich in endemic species, such as the spectacled bear and the rooster of the rock, the Peruvian national bird that performs a ritual of unique courtship. We can also see orchids, bromeliads, ferns, etc.

We will continue observing the spectacular nature throughout our trip until we reach to atalaya port and take a motor boat and go 30 minutes down the river to get to our hostel where we will spend our first night.

tour DAY 2: AMAZON MANU LODGE – CLAY LICK – ZIP LINE – MACHUWASI LAKE –NIGHT WALK

Very early in the morning, we will board our boat and head to the macaw clay lick, a wall along the riverbank where different species of parrots, such as the blue-headed parrot, the white-eyed parakeet, the macaw with chestnut front, among others, gathers every morning. Here they eat clay, which is rich in minerals and helps them digest and eliminate toxins from their bodies.

After, we will return to our lodge for a delicious breakfast. After breakfast, we will take a walk through the forest for 2-3 hours. We will return to the lodge for lunch and then rest or swim in the river. After lunch, you will also have the option to go zip-lining. In the afternoon, we will visit Lake Machuwasi, where we will take a rafts to observe birds, such as the prehistoric bird hoatzin and, with luck, other animals such as monkeys and capybaras. Then we will make a nocturnal walk through the forest to look for insects and amphibians. After the night walk, we will have dinner and spend the night.

Our guests at the Amazon Manu Lodge have the opportunity to appreciate a unique and impressive view of the jungle as they fly through the jungle canopy between platforms built high up in the trees. All equipment used is high mountain and safe. After sliding at high speed through the treetops of the incredible Amazon rainforest, you can rappel 25 meters to the ground (fishing optional)

After a delicious breakfast, we can go for a swim in the hot spring of Atalaya and then we will board our boat back to Puerto Atalaya where our bus will wait for us to return to Cusco. We will have lunch along the route back to Cusco, and we will arrive around 5:30pm at 6:30p.m.
