Are you looking for an authentic Amazon rainforest tour? This 5-day expedition to Tambopata and the famous Macaw Clay Lick offers a deep immersion into the most wildlife-rich region of Peru. From the majestic Sandoval Lake to the colorful clay banks, this journey is designed for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts.
Tour Day 1: Arrival and Introduction to the Tropical Rainforest Tambopata
Upon your arrival at the airport or bus station, our team will greet you and provide a transfer to our main office. Afterward, we will head to the port on the Madre de Dios River to embark on a scenic boat trip to our eco-lodge.
Once you arrive, you will receive a welcome reception with fresh exotic fruit juice. After a short rest, we will explore the jungle pathways. During this walk, you will see ancient trees and diverse wildlife, such as toucans and monkeys. Finally, at night, we embark on a boat safari to find caimans and capybaras under the starlight.
Tour Day 2: Journey to the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick – Tambopata
We start the day at 5:30 am to visit the canopy platforms. From this height, you can observe eagles and parrots in their natural habitat. Following breakfast, we navigate the Tambopata River for five hours toward the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick.
During the trip, you can enjoy a picnic while spotting jaguars or tapirs on the riverbanks. Subsequently, we will set up our campsite in the heart of the reserve. To conclude the evening, we will enjoy a delicious dinner and share jungle stories around the campfire.
Tour Day 3: Wildlife Spectacle and Monkey Island – Tambopata Rainforest
At dawn, we head to the Macaw Clay Lick, where hundreds of colorful birbods congregate to eat mineral-rich clay. This is one of the most incredible wildlife sights in the Amazon rainforest. After this experience, we begin our return trip to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, we will visit “Monkey Island.” Moreover, you will observe how different species interact in this protected environment. Later, we return to the Sandoval Mejia Lodge to enjoy a comfortable night.
Tour Day 4: Exploring the Iconic Sandoval Lake
Early in the morning, we will hike 5km through the fertile jungle to reach Sandoval Lake. This sanctuary is home to the endangered Giant River Otters and black caimans. Because we use rowing boats, you can enjoy a silent and peaceful experience with nature.
In addition to the otters, the lake is a paradise for birdwatchers. Consequently, you will have many opportunities for photography. To finish the day, we will witness a spectacular sunset on the Madre de Dios River before our final dinner.
Tour Day 5: Transfer to Puerto Maldonado
After an early breakfast, we provide a boat transfer back to the city. Finally, we will take you to the airport or bus station for your flight to Cusco or Lima.
