Manu Jungle & Cultural Adventure: 5 Days of Nature and Tradition
- Day 1: Start your adventure early from Cusco, traveling through Andean valleys and visiting the Cloud Forest. Explore pre-Inca tombs and the charming town of Paucartambo before arriving at Posada Pilcopata, where we’ll spend the first night in the jungle.
- Day 2: After an early breakfast, we’ll travel by boat along the Alto Madre de Dios River to Amazon Manu Lodge, where you’ll enjoy lunch and an afternoon exploring local wildlife, including birds and monkeys. In the evening, we’ll embark on a thrilling night excursion to search for caimans.
- Day 3: Observe macaws at the Macaw Clay Lick, then enjoy a walk through the forest, discovering local flora and fauna. In the afternoon, navigate by raft on Machuwasi Lake to see toucans and other wildlife, and finish the day with a night walk.
- Day 4: Discover more Amazonian wildlife on a guided forest hike. Then, relax in the hot springs before an exciting night walk to search for snakes and frogs.
- Day 5: Return by boat to Puerto Atalaya and continue your journey back to Cusco by bus, with a lunch stop along the way, arriving in Cusco by the afternoon.

Detailed itinerary: Cultural and Jungle Adventure in Manu – 5 Days and 4 nights
TOUR DAY 1: Cusco (3300 m.s.n.m.) – Cloud Forest (1700 m.s.n.m.) – Pilcopata Inn (600 m.s.n.m.)
We will start our journey early in the morning from Cusco, boarding one of our comfortable vehicles.
Along the way, we will travel through impressive valleys between the Andes Mountain Range and charming rural communities.
Our first stop will be to explore pre-Inca tombs from the Lupaca culture.
Then, we will visit Paucartambo, a picturesque colonial town, where we will explore its fascinating museum.
As we continue, we will enjoy a delicious lunch in the heart of the cloud forest.
This area is rich in biodiversity, home to endemic species such as the spectacled bear and the Andean cock-of-the-rock, Peru’s national bird, which performs a spectacular courtship ritual.
We will also be able to observe a variety of orchids, bromeliads, and ferns.
We will continue our journey, marveling at the stunning nature, until we reach our first stop, Pilcopata Inn, where we will spend the night.
TOUR DAY 2: Pilcopata – Amazon Manu Lodge (450 m.s.n.m.)
After an early breakfast, we will embark on a hike to explore the forest, where we will have the chance to observe wildlife such as monkeys and birds.
Next, we will visit a coca plantation and the Wildlife Rescue Center.
Afterward, we will travel to Puerto Atalaya, located on the banks of the Alto Madre de Dios River at 500 m.s.n.m.
Here, we will board a boat for a journey down the river, observing the vast diversity of bird species, such as herons, vultures, and cormorants.
Once we arrive at Amazon Manu Lodge, we will enjoy a delicious lunch and a refreshing swim in the river.
In the afternoon, we will visit a nearby swamp, where we will spot birds like toucans, woodpeckers, and macaws.
As night falls, we will go on a night excursion to search for caimans, whose eyes shine in the dark.
We will spend the night at the lodge.
TOUR DAY 3: Amazon Manu Lodge (450 m.s.n.m.)
We will start the day early with a boat ride to Collpa de Guacamayos, a cliff along the riverbank where different species of parrots gather every morning to eat clay, rich in minerals that help them digest and eliminate toxins.
After this natural spectacle, we will return to the lodge for a delicious breakfast.
Next, we will hike through the forest for 2.5 to 3 hours, with the opportunity to observe monkeys, birds, and fascinating jungle plants.
Our guide will explain the complexity of the rainforest ecosystem.
Upon returning, we will have lunch and then take some time to rest or swim in the river.
After lunch, you will have the option to enjoy an exciting zip-line ride! Later, we will visit Machuwasi Lake, where we will explore by raft to observe birds like the prehistoric hoatzin, and, if we are lucky, we may spot caimans, monkeys, and capybaras.
In the evening, we will take a night walk to search for insects and amphibians, before enjoying dinner and resting at the lodge.
Optional Free Activity – Zip Line:
Guests at Amazon Manu Lodge have the opportunity to enjoy a unique and breathtaking view of the jungle as they zip through the canopy between platforms built high in the trees.
All equipment is of high quality and safe. After speeding through the treetops of the incredible Amazon jungle, you will rappel 20 meters to the ground.
TOUR DAY 4: Amazon Manu Lodge
We will wake up early for breakfast, then go on a hike in the forest, where our guide will search for and explain the fascinating biodiversity of wildlife around the lodge.
After the hike, we will return to the lodge for a delicious lunch. In the afternoon, we will travel two hours downriver to visit the hot springs.
At the end of the day, we will take a night walk in search of snakes, frogs, insects, and spiders.
TOUR DAY 5: Amazon Manu Lodge – Cusco
We will wake up early for breakfast at the lodge.
Then, we will pack our belongings and board the boat for the journey back to Puerto Atalaya, where our bus will be waiting to take us back to Cusco.
On the way, we will stop for lunch before arriving in Cusco around 5:30 – 6:30 pm.
